New Leadership For Humber Cheerleading Team

Highly Acclaimed Kristina McCahon To Head Humber Squad!

Toronto, Ontario – June 28, 2010 – Humber Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristina McCahon to the position of head coach of the Humber Cheerleading squad. She brings a wealth of success and experience to Humber, as both an athlete and coach.

She was instrumental in building one of the top high school cheerleading programs in the country, at Martingrove Collegiate Institute. With her as part of the coaching team, Martingrove captured three consecutive provincial titles, and placed second at nationals over the past two seasons. The team won the 2010 National Championships in the Senior Advance Stunt Competition.

Humber has had a cheerleading program in place for the past six years, and it has been a great source of spirit for the Humber varsity teams. Although Humber has also participated in a number of competitions over the past few years, the addition of McCahon will see the Humber squad grow to be a team that will compete on the highest of stages in the country.

“Humber Athletics has a great reputation and I am honoured to join the coaching staff.” said MaCahon, “I hope to use my past cheerleading and coaching experiences to teach the athletes elite level skills while still emphasizing the importance of perfection of the basics before progression.”

McCahon presented Athletic Director Doug Fox with an extensive plan which will challenge all of the athletes that wish to represent Humber this year. This plan will demand the athletes commit to team practices and personal training, in order to present cheer in its most pure fashion, that of precision and athleticism.

“Kristina has an excitement that is captivating,” said Humber Athletic Director Doug Fox, “given her preparation and experience the cheer squad will not only be an exciting and athletic group, it will be a competitive team very quickly.”

The opening tryout for the 2010-11 edition of the Humber cheer squad will take place in Humber’s North Campus gym on Wednesday, September 8/10, starting with a meeting at 7:00 pm and the practice at 8:00 pm. Interested students may contact the coach by emailing Coach McCahon at cheer@humber.ca.
