Shawn Collins To Lead Hawks Men’s Basketball For 2010-11 Season

Current Head Coach Darrel Glenn To Take A One Year Sabbatical

Toronto, Ontario – June 15, 2010 – Humber College is pleased to announce the selection of Sean Collins as the Interim Head Coach of the Humber Hawks Men’s Basketball team. Collins, an assistant for the past five years, will assume the role previously held by Darrel Glenn. Glenn, who has led the Hawks to four Ontario Colleges Athletic Association titles during his six year tenure as the head coach, will take a one year sabbatical.

Collins has been immersed in the provincial basketball scene as a coach of many provincial teams, was a former player in the OCAA with the Sheridan and Seneca College men’s basketball teams, and currently has seen his son become a standout player in the OUA with the University of Windsor. This type of basketball background is unique and should bring instant dividends to Humber.

“At Humber, we are proud of the fact that we have been able to develop coaches from within and prepare them for key positions of leadership with our teams,” said Humber Athletic Director Doug Fox. “The addition of Shawn is just another example of this philosophy and I am sure he will do all in his power to keep Humber at the top this coming season.”

Over the past two years Collins has added the head coaching duties of the Humber Junior Varsity team to his job description, and has led them to titles in every tournament they participated in. This involvement gave the big club the opportunity to bring players up in an almost seamless fashion.

“I am very honoured and excited to take over the lead role with Humber.” exclaimed Collins. “I know the success the program has experienced, especially being part of it over the past number of years and look forward to bringing honours this way again this year.”

Coach Collins has assembled his coaching staff for the 2010/11 season. Fred Grannum, from the exceptional Ballers Club program in Mississauga and Patrick Au, who is the head coach at Sacred Heart will join the Hawks staff. Rounding out the leadership group is the addition of Hawk superstar J.R. Bailey, as he will join the staff after leading the Hawks to the championship last season.
