The Humber Women’s Extramural Hockey Team finished second at the Fleming Invitational Tournament on Friday, January 18th.
The Hawks were ranked second in their pool after round robin play and faced Seneca, third place from the other pool, in the quarter-final elimination game. With a 7-0 win, Humber moved on to face Georgian in the semi-final.
After a back and forth game, and some great defense on both sides, the final score was a 1-0 shoot-out win by the Hawks. Shootout goals were scored by rookie, Alyssa Turner, and veteran, Kristina Grant. Jasmine Badger stood strong between the pipes for Humber.
Balanced scoring, minimal penalties and a couple of shut outs helped the Hawks get to the championship game. The Hawks faced their opponent from the first game of the tournament – La Cite. Humber was unable to keep pace with the Coyotes, playing in their fifth game in just over seven hours.
Humber’s next tournament is at WLU Brantford on February 8th.
