Women’s Basketball First To Win at Inaugural Seneca Tournament
North’s extramural women’s basketball team went undefeated at the tournament hosted at the Seneca King campus on February 15th.
This was the first time this campus held a women’s basketball tournament and the Hawks were determined to be the first to be named champions in the new facility.
It was an early start to the day but despite being tired the women managed to win their first game with a final score of 50-39 against the WLU Brantford team.
In the second game, the Hawks faced George Brown and took the win 34-25.
After winning both games, Humber finished first in their pool.
This put them in a good place heading into the semi-finals where they played against Fleming.
Fleming was forced to play back-to-back games and they came out tired in their second game against the Hawks.
Humber was well rested and took this as an opportunity to take it easy and work on some offensive plays.
Energy was a lacklustre in the third quarter but the Hawks managed to pick up the intensity and secure the win 40-17.
The women had a really short break before heading into the final game against the aggressive Lakehead team.
It was back and forth in the final game as the scores remained too close for comfort.
Solid defence from both teams made it a low scoring game.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter where the Hawks made smart passes to take a 10-point lead, winning the game with a final score of 31-21.
Everyone on the team played their role well and contributed equally to the winning outcome.
With their latest tournament being cancelled during reading week, the Hawks are back in action next in their final tournament at WLU Brantford on Friday, March 8th.
