The Humber Lakeshore Athletics Department is inviting artists of all skill levels and mediums to submit an original visual piece to be considered for a mural-style installation within our athletics facility at Humber College’s Lakeshore Campus.

We are seeking submissions that connect with the following themes:

  • History of Sports and Athletics in Etobicoke, there is a rich history of sports and athletics within Etobicoke. The region has been home to many renowned athletes and inductees to the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame, such as Johnny Bower (1994) and Kelly Gruber (2016). We are passionate and proud of all the athletes in our community - from grassroots sports through to the professional ranks.
  • Humber Sports and Athletics, Humber College is home to many athletic teams ranging in competition level from Intramural to Varsity. These student athletes are passionate about their sport, team, and wearing our Humber colours proudly. People partake in sport and athletics at Humber for a variety of reasons; whether it be as a hobby, competition, a focus on health, or as an outlet to engage within their Humber student community. We are proud to see new and familiar faces within our department and teams, in addition to our ever growing alumni Hawk family.

The art piece will be installed in the first floor stairwell of the Lakeshore Athletics Facility, located at 3246 Lakeshore Blvd W. The installation will be visible both to those using the facility as well as anyone passing by the exterior of the building thanks to the large floor-to-ceiling windows in this area.

We are aiming for an installation period in February-March of 2019.

The measurements of the wall to be used are:

  • Height: 115”
  • Base: 81.5”

Applications must include:

  • Description of your proposed piece (300 words max)
  • Artistic medium to be used (paint, vinyl, etc.)
  • 3-5 photos of previous sample works
  • Your contact information (name, email, phone number)

Humber Lakeshore Athletics will provide:

  • Honorarium to the selected artist of $1,250
  • Cost of supplies (paints or vinyls, to be discussed with the selected artist)

Deadline for submissions:

  • Friday, January 11 th, 2019 at midnight

About Humber Athletics

Humber College was founded in 1967. With this exciting news came the Department of Athletics. The administrators within the Athletic Department pondered possible nicknames of the College Sports teams. It was in that instance that a Hawk soared across the Valley Field that the campus overlooked. It was an easy choice, as the Hawk represented the qualities that Humber Varsity would aspire to.  It is powerful, a predator and graceful. The name Humber Hawk not only sounded right, it perfectly embodied both sport and competition.

The mission of the Humber College Department of Athletics is to facilitate and augment the education and growth of its student-athletes through their participation in competitive OCAA and CCAA Athletics. Humber is committed to the welfare of its student-athletes and staff, and supports an environment that encourages excellence in both athletic and academic performance, diversity and sportsmanship.
